Project Update – ISEE 2016

Alexandra and I were fortunate enough to join a panel at the International Society for Ecological Economics 2016 Conference in Washington, DC. Our panel consisted of Jon Honea & Nejem Raheem, professors at Emerson College; Nick Wildman, Restoration Specialist at the Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration; along with us two filmmakers.

Each of us addressed our involvement in the Shawsheen Restoration project. Nick shared about why this river was chosen and explained the Division of Ecological Restoration’s role in the project. Jon & Nejem shared about their co-taught course about the Shawsheen at Emerson and how they balanced the ecological and economic perspectives between the two of them. We finished the presentation with Alexandra and I showing a few clips from the documentary thus far and exploring how our documentary is a manifestation of the class.

After our presentation, Alexandra and I took the opportunity to sit down and interview a few conference attendees about their thoughts on ecological economics and how a communities build relationships with their environments.
